Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian were friends in elementary school and decided to try out for the cathedral choir because it would perform in social movement of the Queen of England, which it eventually did. The 2 childishness friends formed a band together and would record player recording their freewheeling grind away sessions. One of those sessions became their beginning liberation, the EP The Door, which was released on Anvil Records in 1999 and only in the U.K. Among the influences of Turin Brakes' early old age were Sebadoh, Truman's Water, Prince, and the Black Crowes. The State of Things EP followed in August of 2000 (U.K. only). Turin Brakes began playing full-band unrecorded shows at the Reading and Leeds festivals. A one-third U.K.-only EP followed in October when the band opened for bands including Kathryn Williams, Doves, and Lowgold. The band's debut uncut album, he Optimist LP, was released world-wide in May of 2001 on Astralwerks. EMI released the LP, which includes some songs from the earlier EPs, with a bonus disc in France. The successful Ether Song from 2003 brought the grouping more fans and was followed by the more polished Jackinabox 2 onetime age later. Turin Brakes has frequently been compared to such quietcore bands as Coldplay, Travis, and the Norwegian band the Kings of Convenience, whose 2001 record album entitled Quiet Is the New Loud describes Turin Brakes well in any case. |

Big Changes In Public Attitudes Toward Different Industries Since Last Year
These ar some of the results of a nationwide telephony survey conducted by Harris Interactive among 1,010 U.S. adults between July 8 and 13, 2008:
Industries with the Best Reputations
Supermarkets continue to get punter scores than any other industry; in full 90 pct of all adults think they do a proficient job and only six-spot percent suppose they do a short job, gift them a net positive score of 84. Next in the list of industries with the best reputations ar online search engines (65), computer hardware companies (64), computer software system companies (59), hospitals (53), and Internet service providers (52).
Industries with Worst Reputations
Tobacco companies (43) and oil colour companies (xxxii) come at the bottom of the list, far below the other 19 industries. The two other industries with negative wads are managed care companies (-14) and health insurance (-9), which are now more or less synonymous.
Three former industries have low grade below 20: cable companies (14), pharmaceuticals (15) and airlines (18).
Industries that Have Improved since Last Year
Five industries take seen their reputation heaps improve by six points or more than since last year: cable companies (+15), health insurance policy (+12), sprightliness insurance (+8), Internet serving providers (+6) and managed care (+6).
Industries that Have Lost Ground since Last Year
Six industries have seen their gobs get worse this year. Investment and brokerage firms have missed the most ground (twenty-one). Also sir Joseph Banks lost 10 points. These changes reflect the problems triggered by the sub-prime mortgage crisis.
Other industries to go down are online search engines (twelve), packaged food companies (-9), car manufacturers (-9), and pharmaceuticals (-6).
Changes since 1997
Three industries let seen really massive declines in their reputations since Harris kickoff asked these questions xI years ago in 1997:
- Oil companies have fallen 56 points from 24 point positive to 32 negative;
- Airlines have fallen 48 points from 66 positive to 18 positive since 1998 (they were not included in the 1997 appraise);
- Pharmaceutical companies have fallen 45 points from 60 positive to 15 positive this year.
Three other industries have suffered declines of more than 20 points since 1997: managed care (blue 27 points), telephone companies (down 24 points since 1997), and health insurance (down 22 points).
So What?
Our experience teaches us that this question is more than than a measure of how well industries are serving their consumers. It also reflects the overall reputation of the industries measured.
A review of why industries have gained or helpless popularity makes it clear there are at least three factors at work:
- Personal experiences (e.g., higher oil or drug prices or misfortunate airlines service);
- Other real world events (e.g., the banking and mortgage crisis); and
- Media coverage.
Of course, these ar all linked. Real world events, forged service and bad experiences can lead to bad media coverage. But thither are besides cases where personal experiences are relatively positive and media coverage tends to be negative (such as health indemnity). Clearly industries need to focus on good customer service and running their business successfully with a strong focus on the public interest. When the price of an industry's goods and services rises sharply, the quality of their services decline or they have a bunch of unfavourable press reporting, they should expect to become more unpopular.
Harris Interactive measures corporate and brand reputation through its EquiTrend and Reputation Quotient studies. For more information, please visit http://www.harrisinteractive.com.
Methodology
The Harris Poll was conducted by phone within the United States between July 8 and 13, 2008 among a nationwide cross section of 1,010 adults (aged 18 and over). Figures for age, sex, race, education, number of adults, number of voice/telephone lines in the household, region and size of place were weighted where necessary to coordinate them with their actual proportions in the universe. However, only approximately five hundred people were asked about each industry. Full information tables and methodology for this study can be found at http://www.harrisinteractive.com. These statements conform to the principles of disclosure of the National Council on Public Polls.

'Jessica Simpson & Tony Romo Romance Back On'
The couple’s romantic status has remained a mystery amid persistent reports of a split, despite the pair being seen together on a number of occasions in recent weeks.
Now one of Romo’s college buddies is lifting the lid on what caused the split.
''He did agree to go to [sister Ashlee's] wedding - keeping his promise to Jessica,'' an unnamed source tells the Sun Times.
''But he made it super-clear that if they were to give it another go, her dad had to seriously back off.''
Joe Simpson manages both Jessica and sister Ashlee’s careers - and is well-known for taking a hands on approach to their private lives as well.
Apparently, three was most definitely a crowd for Romo.
The source adds that the Dallas Cowboy has agreed to a ''trial'' reunion, dependent on Joe ''leaving them alone.”

Jimmy Eat World BLEED AMERICAN Deluxe (Geffen/UMe) Out April 29
Live And Demo Tracks, Newly Recorded 'Your House 2007'
'[Jimmy Eat World] conjure that shock of near-bubblegum catchiness,
airtight ensemble attack and bittersweet mingling of anguish and uplifting
melody that many bands fake but few can pull off ... Jimmy Eat World have
managed to be radical by just being sincere.' -Rolling Stone lead review of
BLEED AMERICAN, Aug. 16, 2001
'Tuneful, retro alt-rock - Brilliant!' -BLENDER, BEST OF 2001
'An eclectic sonic feast (Album of the week)' -PEOPLE, August 6, 2001
SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 7, 2008 -- For every artist
paralyzed with fear and frustration as to how to "make it" in today's
terrifying marketplace, the story behind Jimmy Eat World's BLEED AMERICAN
provides both inspiration and a lesson in Perseverance 101.
Circa August 1999, things couldn't look much more dire for the Mesa, AZ
foursome. Jim Adkins, Rick Burch, Zach Lind and Tom Linton had seen their
two major label full lengths, STATIC PREVAILS and CLARITY, ignored by
mainstream media, radio and their label Capitol Records, who had just
unceremoniously dropped them.
However, this same turn of events that has broken the will -- and the
bank -- of many a lesser artist found Jimmy Eat World celebrating its
newfound independence with a self-promoted five-week tour of Europe. That
their label had never released Jimmy Eat World material overseas was hardly
an obstacle: the band began buying its own records from the label's
distributor and shipping them to Europe independently. Within a year, Jimmy
Eat World was playing Europe's biggest festivals as CLARITY hit the German
charts, self-releasing and independently releasing compilations and EPs,
doing Japanese licensing deals, and touring touring touring ... ultimately
channeling everything back into the recording of BLEED AMERICAN.
Having recorded it on their own dime as a dedication to the fans that
had kept them alive during the lean times, the members of Jimmy Eat World
couldn't possibly have predicted that BLEED AMERICAN would become a
platinum-plus, MTV VMA-nominated bona fide career breakthrough smash.
Released in July 2001, in a world with no iTunes store, no MySpace, no
Facebook, and charts still utterly dominated by the Britneys, N Syncs and
Limp Bizkits, four down to earth guys from Arizona who'd just been dropped
by a major label improbably rode this self-funded album to platinum status,
their biggest tours to date and an appearance on Saturday Night Live.
For anyone looking to do the same, the path is simple: Just create
songs as heartfelt, tuneful and instantly indelible as BLEED AMERICAN's
title track, "The Middle," "Sweetness," "A Praise Chorus" or "The Authority
Song," all of which remain staples of the band's live set to this day. And
for those who crave something other than the perfect upbeat and optimistic
pop anthem, the minor key whisper-to-a-scream "Get It Faster," the five and
a half minute "Cautioners" and the somber "My Sundown" all stand as proof
of Jimmy Eat World's daring and depth.
This 2-disc deluxe edition of BLEED AMERICAN not only restores the
record's original title -- the band re-titled the record JIMMY EAT WORLD
following the events of 9/11 and the subsequent deployment of U.S. troops
to the Middle East -- but also provides further documentation of Jimmy Eat
World's powerful and prolific output circa 2001-2002: obscure fan favorites
"No Sensitivity," "Softer" and "(Splash) Turn Twist," the collectors item
holiday single "Last Christmas"/"Firestarter," the band's cover of Guided
By Voices' "Game of Pricks," and the piece de resistance, the never before
heard "Your House 2007." The stunning reimagining of the BLEED AMERICAN
track the band debuted on its 2007 stripped down semi-acoustic tour
elicited an unexpectedly intense response from fans at the shows and later
on message boards, moving the band to commit the arrangement to tape to
honor its fans if nothing else ...
The 2-disc BLEED AMERICAN deluxe collects all this and more for the
first time in one place, creating an essential and comprehensive document
for any fan of Jimmy Eat World -- or any fan of what USA TODAY called
"euphoric, uplifting, reassuring rock."

Rihanna - Rihanna Haircut Helped Me Find Myself
Singer RIHANNA has credited her shorter hairdo with distinguishing her from other pop stars - and for allowing her to discover herself.
The 20-year-old rebelled against her record label's wishes last year (07) when she chopped her long locks into an edgy pixie cut to coincide with the release of her album Good Girl Gone Bad.
And the Umbrella hitmaker insists the change in style helped her establish her independence.
She says, "I felt like the whole world had long, curly, flowy blonde hair. Ciara, Beyonce, Mariah, Christina Milian. Everybody wanted to be like everybody else. So I cut my hair and they (Def Jam) made me put my long hair back in (as extensions).
"The second time, I didn't have any discussions, nothing. I just cut it, I dyed it black, I went into the studio making music my way. I found myself all at once. I like things strong, edgy, a little to the left. I don't like things that are expected - nothing cliched."
